Komphela pleased with Caf win

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela hopes that Sunday’s 4-0 African Champions League victory over Volcan Club will give his side some momentum going into a much tougher league encounter with SuperSport United at the weekend.
The opposition from the Comoros may have been below Premier Soccer League standard, but Komphela says the win will give his confidence, especially in front of goal, and that success breeds success.
“We planned to win this match,” Komphela told his club’s website. “That’s what we got, a good result away from home. They didn’t pose much danger, but we had to adapt under the different conditions from what we are used to. I am happy with the team’s performance.”
Chiefs face SuperSport – and their ex-coach Stuart Baxter – in a crucial league clash at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, a game that is a must-win if they are to mount a defence of their Absa Premiership title this season.
“We will take this result to the next game. We just want to continue our winning form. We took courage from the win against Maritzburg United, which led to beating Golden Arrows and, accordingly, we got one over Bidvest Wits. And we did the same here.
“We are not looking at what happened in Moroni. Yes, we will refer to the victory, but our focus is always on the next assignment. However, the result gives us a good cushion going into the home fixture.”
