Aces rescue a point against Ajax

Despite taking a two-goal lead, Ajax Cape Town failed to bag the full three points when they drew 2-2 against Mpumalanga Black Aces in an Absa Premiership match at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.
Two first-half goals by Riyad Norodien and Prince Nxumalo put the Urban Warriors in front, but AmaZayoni bounced back through Collins Mbesuma and Bhongolethu Jayiya to ensure they grabbed a point.
Roger De Sa’s men nearly scored in the 10th minute when Toriq Losper tried to beat Walters, from long range but his effort went over the cross bar.
AmaZayoni took time to get into the game and gave Anssi Jaakkola something to work on in the 17th minute when Mbesuma saw a header well-saved.
Five minutes later, the Urban Warriors grabbed the lead when Norodien made a wonderful run into the box and found the back of the net with a right foot finish after an assist from Nxumalo down the left flank, 1-0.
In the 40th minute Nxumalo doubled their lead when he made a great turn in the box before beating Walters from close range, 2-0.
The Cape Town-based side went into the tunnel at half time enjoying a 2-0 lead,.
However, the Nelspruit-based side came back into the match when Mbesuma netted an equaliser in the 48th minute.
The Zambian forward beat Jaakkola from close range with a slight back heel to take his goal tally to 12 following an initial long range shot from Thanduyise Khuboni, 2-1.
In an attempt to stretch their lead, the hosts nearly made it three after a quick run from Losper into the penalty area, but his well-taken shot went wide of the far post in the 52nd minute.
In the 83rd minute Aces were awarded a free kick in a promising position on the edge of the box, but Lehlohonolo Nonyane’s attempt went straight into the arms of Jaakkola.
However, a minute later Lebohang Manyama collected the ball from deep in the midfield and released the speedy Jayiya who outran Ajax and beat Jaakkola on his left corner to make it 2-2.
Despite their attempts to find a late winner in the dying minutes, both sides could not find a winner and settled for one point apiece.
Ajax are now placed at position eight with 23 points on the Absa Premiership table while Mushin Ertugral’s men move back to third spot with 36 points.
