Delight for Ajax’s Morris with return

Ajax Cape Town striker Tashreeq Morris has spoken of his delight in returning to Absa Premiership action after a lengthy lay-off.
Morris suffered a serious knee injury at last season’s Nedbank Cup final and was out for eight months after surgery but made a successful return at the weekend with a goal against SuperSport United in a surprise 3-1 triumph for Ajax and will likely play again on Wednesday when they host Mpumalanga Black Aces.
“Coming back from this injury and going straight into the first eleven is a big achievement in itself,” said Morris on the eve of their match at the Athlone Stadium.
“Credit has to go to the medical team who all helped me recover and get back onto the pitch. Also credit has to go to the coach for showing that amount of confidence in me, playing me straight away when we were given the go-ahead from the doctor. It’s really a great feeling coming back and being placed straight into the first eleven. The way it seems is that the coach has been waiting on me to recover to play me again, that means a lot to me,” he said.
“One of the things a player would want most after coming from a long injury lay off is to score, I’m so happy that it came so early for me. I will continue to try hard every time I play not only to score but to do whatever I can to help the team win. It’s been tough at times for the team, but we are fighting hard to get points from every match and I think we are starting to get things right again,” added Morris.
“We don’t have many options upfront so that’s why we pushed Tassie a bit quicker than maybe we should have,” said De Sa at a press conference in the Mother City on Monday.
Prince Nxumalo is Ajax’s only other option upfront with Nathan Paulse suffering a broken arm last Wednesday in the 2-1 loss at Orlando Pirates. Franklin Cale is still out after recent from surgery on his cheekbone while Bantu Mzwakali is sick.
“If everyone had been fit we’d still be holding Morris back but we haven’t had any other option.
‘But the way he got stuck into some of the tackles against SuperSport on Sunday, you wouldn’t say this is a guy who had an operations just months ago,” added the Ajax coach
