Nigeria international, Hope Akpan, is expected to have surgery next week following a shoulder injury he sustained while playing in the 2015 Afcon qualification.
The 23-year-old midfielder was injured in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Congo and had to make way with a dislocated shoulder which ruled him out of the match against South Africa.
The Nigerian team doctor, Ibrahim Gyaran, had estimated that Akpan would be out for a couple of weeks but Reading FC manager, Nigel Adkins, revealed that the player will now be sidelined for an extra 10 weeks.
“We’ve lost Hope. He saw the consultant this morning and he is going to require surgery.
“The decision is they are going to operate on Monday (next week) and that’s going to put him out for three months.
“It’s a blow. I’ve viewed the incident from the game and it was so innocuous, just a brush of the shoulder,” said Reading FC manager, Nigel Adkins.
Akpan has made two appearances for Nigeria, and they were in the 2015 Afcon qualification against Sudan and Congo.
