The Super Eagles fine-tuned their game for Bafana Bafana away from prying eyes this afternoon. Unlike the huge crowd that turned out and were let in to cheer the team yesterday evening as they had their first feel of the main bowl of the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, today access so far has been strictly by invitation.
Yesterday’s session which lasted for about two hours had a slew of big wigs in attendance including Etubom Paul Bassey, the CAF and FIFA Match Commissioner, and retired super Ref Chief Linus Mba. Again the two players that caught the special fancy of the fans camped outside just as yesterday, were team skipper, Vincent Enyeama, and Chelsea star midfielder, John Mikel Obi.
Enyeama was particularly impressed with the stadium and pitch and led the fans in a boisterous cheering session before assuring the ecstatic entourage of victory and then being hustled away by the coaches.
Meanwhile a storm is anticipated in the Uyo Metro area this evening with more expected around game time tomorrow according to Accuweather.
However the players and fans remain all optimistic of a good game as the Stadium is equipped with an excellent drainage system and just as when it hosted Ghana in the opening of the complex under severe rain, it is expected to handle any substantial downpour.
