Anelka eyes Algeria

Former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka is in talks with an Algerian division one club named NA Hussein Dey (NAHD), based in the North African country’s capital Algiers. The club’s president said after a “courtesy visit” of the former France international to the team’s premises during the weekend.
“Anelka has played in a number of continents and told us he would like to play in Africa and in Algeria specifically,” said Mahfoud Ouled Zmirli, NAHD’s president.
“He didn’t talk about money. He only said he would like to play for an Algeria club,” Zmirli said.
However, age restrictions by the Algeria football federation (FAF) could hinder the former Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus forward to enrol at his 13th career club.
Foreign players must be under 29 years to be qualified to play in the Ligue Professionnelle 1 whereas Anelka is 35.
Zmirli is confident the rules could be bent in favour of the Frenchman, whose presence at the club he said would inspire young talents.
Anelka told reporters that he was now a free agent after his stint at India’s Mombai FC and would consider all possibilities including a move to NAHD.
“I’m now a free agent and being free I can consider all possibilities even NAHD,” he said.
“However, I only came to NAHD for a courtesy visit and I discovered that the club is well organised and has a beautiful complex. It’s an interesting experience.
