SA juniors continue AYC preps

The South African National Men’s Under-20 (Amajita) and Under-17 (Amajimbos) teams will this week continue with their respective preparations of the CAF African Youth tournaments which will take place in Niger and Senegal respectively.
Amajita, who lost 3-1 to Qatar on Saturday, are in Russia to take part in the 2015 Commonwealth Cup which will take place in St Petersburg, Russia from 15-25 January.
The team coach by David Notoane on an interim basis as coach Thabo Senong is with Bafana Bafana, are in Group C together with Lithuania, Tjikistan and Kazakhstan.
The South Africans open their Group C account with a match against Lithuania on Saturday, 17 January before rounding off their tight programme with matches against Tajikistan the following day and Kazakhstan on 20 January 2015.
“The defeat against Qatar was a wake-up call but we are now fully focused on doing well in this tournament. The boys are hurting from that defeat and that is enough motivation to galvanize them to do well in this tournament. We should compete,” said Notoane.
Meanwhile, Amajimbos (Under-17) will be on the road again on Thursday following their credible 1-1 draw against Zambia in Lusaka in a friendly international last Saturday. This time they are off to Nigeria where they will play the hosts on Saturday, 17 January 2015 (Kick-off 16h00), the same day Amajimbos open their Commonwealth account with Lithuania.
“These are really exciting times for South African football. Both Amajita and Amajimbos are in action on Saturday in what should be a thrilling double header,” said SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan.
“Three days later, Bafana Bafana open their account against Algeria in the Orange Africa Cup of Nations Equatorial Guinea 2015 tournament. Fans will be spoilt for choice during this soccer feast,” he added.
