Bhengu hails Diski top scorer Gopane

Polokwane City's coach Junior Bhengu has praised the MultiChoice Diski Challenge top goal scorer Mothusi Gopane who netted five times in the group stage.

The left winger played for the first team but later struggled to get game time. He then went on to feature in all the seven games City played in the Diski Challenge.

Gopane was a constant feature in the tournament's Team of the Week, which further highlighted his special talent.

"He's a fantastic player, you must remember that he has played in the PSL. He wants to show that he deserves a chance to play in the first team also," his coach Bhengu said.

"He's been pushing for his place in the first team, which might come anytime from now. He's doing well, he's been a very important member of the team," he continued.

Interestingly, Gopane's first goal only came in match-day four when he scored the opener in City's 2-1 win over Moroka Swallows at the Tuks Stadium in Pretoria.

He netted his second the following day in their five-goal thriller against University of Pretoria, where they won 3-2.

His scoring form continued in their match against Kaizer Chiefs when he got the consolation goal late in the match as City went down 2-1.

The talented youngster left the best for last as he scored a brace in their final encounter against Maritzburg United, whom they thumped 6-2.

That resulted in an impressive stat as it meant he found the back of the net five times in four matches.

"We just tell him every time "go there and show people what you can do boy, we know you've got the talent. Go show your strength," Bhengu concluded.

Gopane, who signed a pre-contract with SuperSport United during the transfer window, will be hoping to add to his tally when City take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarterfinal match on Sunday.

The match will take place at the King Zwelithini Stadium, kickoff is at 12pm.
