David Duncan analyses the reason for Kotoko's poor patch before he took over as coach.
A series of poor results for the reigning league champions were enough to get Masud Dramani out of the job, but it was not because the coaching was poor.
Having helped the Reds to a draw in Algeria in African club competition and now leading them to his debut league win on Sunday, the outspoken coach believes everything was mental.
“I thought the players were low on confidence and the psychological aspect of the game is key,” he said after the win over Bechem United.
“You can have the best of players but if they are not well psyched and motivated, they will not be able to perform.”
Duncan's statement ties in with what Dramani said just before his tenure officially ended, as he had also intimated that the very nature of football meant players can go through slow mental periods which may be difficult to recover from.
Kotoko are currently 11th ahead of their next game with Liberty Professionals.
