Jackson looks to league redemption

Platinum Stars caretaker coach Willem Jackson has suggested his side’s exit from the Nedbank Cup at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
The team shipped two goals in the final 10 minutes to go down 3-1 and Jackson says that now gives them the opportunity to solely focus on their withering league campaign.
Stars sit just two points above the relegation play-off position, a run of form that has seen coach Allan Freese placed on “special leave’ and Jackson handed the reins.
The latter says the players must now face the reality that they are in a relegation scrap and take responsibility.
“At this point we are faced with [the] reality of us sitting at the bottom and it is up to us to make sure we leave that spot,” Jackson said. “We have really played well and I am looking at motivating the players to move forward and work hard.
“The Nedbank Cup was a great opportunity but it was not our priority, we just had to make sure we represent the club well, which I think we have. Sundowns was not an easy side, but we gave them a run for their money.”
Jackson says the international break will give his players a chance to regroup ahead of their next Absa Premiership encounter at home to Ajax Cape Town on April 4.
“Now, we have a break and we must utilise it to our best advantage, the journey is still on,” he said.
