Chippa United coach Ernst Middendorp has downplayed the chances of his side being sucked into the relegation mix, despite the club sitting just three points above the play-off position.
The Port Elizabeth-based side are without a win in 13 games and clash with fellow strugglers Moroka Swallows in their next outing on April 15, a match that is a real relegation six-pointer.
Middendorp still feels his side are in a “good” position, but admits they need to start winning.
“Mathematically, we are in a good position on the log table at the moment, but we’ll have to push more forward for the top eight brackets position by collecting points in our remaining league games,” he told his club’s website.
“The focus is to collect at least full points in our away games or a draw but at home we need all three points on offer.” Middendorp says the pressure his team feels is no different from any other side in the Absa Premiership.
“Of course there is pressure at this stage but I believe in my players. We are going to fight together to stay in the top flight football next season.”
