Three National First Division sides – Golden Arrows, Black Leopards and Vasco Da Gama – have advanced into the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup after this past weekend’s action.
Leopards made the biggest headlines with their stunning 2-1 away win over Absa Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.
Goals from Morgan Shivambu and Roggert Nyundu took Lidoda Duvha to a shock victory at Soccer City, though it must be said that the NFD team benefitted from some questionable officiating in the match, as their first goal was clearly offside and Chiefs were denied an obvious penalty in the first half.
Vasco Da Gama, meanwhile, defeated fellow NFD side Maluti FET College 3-0 at Parow Park, with Aleni Lebyane, Stanley Muishond and Samuel Julies getting the goals for the Cape Town club.
NFD leaders Golden Arrows secured their progression into the last eight with a 1-0 win over ABC Motsepe League side Natal United at Chatsworth Stadium. Veteran striker Mabhuti Khenyeza netted the only goal.
The other NFD side in Nedbank Cup action was Jomo Cosmos, who exited the competition after a 1-0 away defeat at the hands of Black Aces.
Arrows, Leopards and Vasco join Bidvest Wits, Ajax Cape Town, Aces, SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarterfinals.
The next round of NFD league fixtures will be played on the weekend of 3-5 April.
