Four teams are still in with a chance of progressing to the GOtv Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup quarterfinals here in Nairobi as the two best third-placed teams, with Burundi, Zanzibar and Rwanda favourites.
But Eritrea, who like Rwanda have lost both their opening two games, are refusing to be ruled out.
The Red Sea Camels meet Rwanda’s Amavubi in their Group C final game, with the winner joining Zanzibar and Burundi on three points. But it will come down to how many goals are scored by the winner.
And Eritrea coach Omer Ahmed believes it is not out of their reach. “The two games we have lost to Uganda and Sudan, we start poor because our players don’t have experience and they score us many goals early,” he told SuperSport.com at the team hotel, Milele, ahead of Thursday’s encounter.
“But in the second half we play very beautiful football, both against Uganda and Sudan. Uganda are very tough team and champions, same with Sudan.
“But for us this Cecafa has been a good lesson for our young team. And I can tell you, we are winning our next game. I tell you, we are beating Rwanda, you will see.”
Omer added: “We have learned lessons from our games against Sudan and Uganda. We play well going forward but when we reach the box, we don’t score. My strikers know they have to improve. If we beat Rwanda 3-0 or so, we are through to the quarterfinals.
