“It’s a big responsibility to come in and coach a side at this time of the season but it is a challenge which I take on with pleasure,” said Sithole on Thursday in an interview on his club’s website.
“I always wish the best for Free State Stars and will always lend a hand where it is needed – remember I come from very far with this team, I played here as a defender myself.”
Sithole’s latest tenure started off poorly with a 3-1 loss on Wednesday away at Pretoria University.
“I would say we played well but were unfortunate at the end of the day because of a few mistakes. I need some time to work and help the team come out of the position we find ourselves in.
“We only had one training session which is just one and a half hours before we travelled to Pretoria so I think that summarises the result we came back with. “Keep in mind that all the goals we conceded were mainly minor mistakes which they capitalised on. A free-kick goal, a costly mistake from the defender inside the 18-area and a penalty kick are things that can happen any time to any team. “We took a lot of positives from the loss and I think the boys responded well to the few instructions I gave them and it is a start. Going at the rate of one game at a time I’m sure we will rectify our mistakes.”
Sithole first coached Stars together with Wilfred Mugeyi after the departure of Roy Baretto in 2006.
He was the coach in the 2008/09 season between Owen da Gama and Steve Komphela’s first spell.
In the 2009/10 season Sithole started the new season as caretaker coach when Komphela left to Platinum Stars, then replaced Jose Valinhos after he was fired, and then came back for a third spell in charge in a single season when Gordon Igesund left before the end of the season.
“I’ve gained valuable information on the team and its goals plus it’s vision, which should help in my stint in leading from the bench,” he added.
