Nigerian champions, Kano Pillars will name a new coach in the next fortnight.
Mohammed Baba Ganaru, the man who guided the club to successive league titles quit his post last week and plans have now reached top gear as far as naming his replacement is concerned.
Chairman of Pillars, Abba Yola who confirmed this to supersport.com on Monday revealed that the club’s technical committee had already shortlisted a number of names with a replacement set to be named within the next 14 days.
“Two weeks from now, we will name our new coach. The technical committee (of Kano Pillars) has already shortlisted several names and we have begun speaking with them,” Yola said.
The club chief then took the time to praise former coach, Ganaru whom he described as “a great coach who will always be a part of our history”.
“We will miss Baba but life must go on. He is a great coach who will always be a part of our history.
“He said it himself that he is part of this club. He loves the club and it was just unfortunate we had to part ways.
“His Wife and kids are all in Kano and this remains his home at any time. We wish him well in his future endeavours,” he said.
“The Kano State Government will have a reception for players, coaches and officials of the team in Kano (on Tuesday, December 3) and Baba will be there as well because he will always be one of us.
Pillars will now set their sights on retaining the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title as well make a splash in next season’s Caf Champions League.
“Winning the (NPFL) league (title) for three consecutive seasons is not an easy accomplishment but we will try to do it.
“Last year, we did not do too well in the Champions League but that will be corrected this time around,” he said.
After bowing out in the first round of the Caf Champions League in 2011 and 2013, Pillars will look to improve on their semi final finish of 2009 next year.
