The GOtv Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup going on in Kenya will have one of the most potentially thrilling matches on Thursday as Group C seeks a winner going into the quarterfinals.
Action at Nyayo Stadium will see defending champions Uganda go head to head with Sudan to determine who leads the group, while Rwanda and Eritrea, both yet to win a game, will be involved in another affair in Machakos as they battle for one of the two places to progress as the best third-placed side.
Uganda and Sudan are level on six points and both have scored four goals, meaning that should they draw; a coin will be tossed to determine the winner of the group.
But with a toss yet to determine the winner of Group A between Ethiopia and Kenya, the Cranes would rather have matters sorted on the turf of play.
“This is better for us because it will be a tough match,” Micho Sredojevic, the Cranes coach told SuperSport.com at the team’s hotel, Milele, ahead of a potential mouthwatering clash.
Sudan are a very good side but we are also a good side. We shall go out for a win and be positive. Like I said, we want to have as many competitive matches as possible. It is good for our players.”
Hamis Kiiza, Emmanuel Okwi and Daniel Sserunkuma are expected to continue leading a three-man attack after their combination destroyed Eritrea in their last game.
Richard Kasagga and Savio Kabugo will have to be at their best to keep silent Sudan’s leading scorer (three goals) Ibrahim Saleh while Geoffrey Kizito and Khalid Aucho will anchor the midfield. Uganda have beaten Sudan four times of the last five they have met.
