English club Arsenal Ladies have confirmed the signing of striker Chioma Ubogagu, who has Nigerian roots.
Ubogagu, born in London and raised in Texas from the age of three, joins the North London club from Stanford University in the USA.
"Arsenal Ladies have completed the signing of forward Chioma Ubogagu from Stanford University in the United States," Arsenal announced on Thursday.
The striker is heading to London with a reputation that has seen her score 27 goals in 89 appearances for Stanford University. She also weighed in with 37 assists in her four-year spell for the university.
Arsenal Ladies manager Pedro Martinez Losa has described his new acquisition as a "fantastic talent" and "very creative" in front of goal.
Losa believes that Ubogagu will have no problems fitting into the Arsenal Ladies squad.
"Chioma is a player I have known about from my time coaching in the United States and she is a fantastic talent. She is very creative, and is able to make goals as well as score them. I think that she will fit in very well with us," Losa said.
Ubogagu has represented the USA at under-20 level. She was part of the USA women's under-20s that won the 2012 Fifa Women's World Cup.
Only few days ago, Nigerian woman international and current African Woman Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala joined Liverpool Ladies.
