Josep Maria Bartomeu, president of Spanish giants Barcelona, was interrogated Friday by National Court judge Pablo Ruz about alleged tax evasion in the signing of Brazilian forward Neymar from Santos in 2013.
Also indicted is Bartomeu's successor Sandro Rosell, who stepped down as Barca president in January 2014 because of the case. Rosell and Bartomeu have denied any misdemeanours in the signing.
Bartomeu has refused to resign and has said he will be a candidate in the club's presidential elections which will take place at the end of the season.
When the indictment of Bartomeu was made public February 3, the Barca president said to Catalan television channel TV3: "Certain powers in the state are looking at Barca with a magnifying glass, because of our support for the Catalan referendum on independence (which took place in November, despite the opposition of the Spanish government)."
