The Egyptian prime minister Ibrahim Mahlab has revealed that the Premier League will be back within two weeks.
The Egyptian council of ministers had decided to put on hold the league season to an unnamed date after the death of 22 Zamalek fans before their match against ENPPI last Sunday.
But the prime minister has stated that the league will resume latest in two weeks after he meets with the Egyptian Football Association on the matter.
"We will hold a meeting with the Egyptian Football Association then we will announce when the league will be back again; that should happen within two weeks. We decided to put the league on hold after what had happened because we wanted to assess the situation, but I can assure that the league will be back," Mahlab said.
There were suggestions earlier in the wake of the riots that led to 22 being killed on Sunday that the Egyptian top flight will remain suspended indefinitely.
Egypt FA board member, Mahmoud El Shami, has disclosed that if the league does not resume soon, then the clubs stand to lose a lot of money.
El Shami said: "I wish the league back soon as possible."
