Enyeama aims to be the best

Nigerian goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama believes he can be the best goal keeper in the world.

Enyeama’s statistics are frightening this term as he has conceded goals in only two of Lille’s eleven league games in Ligue 1.

The shot-stopper kept another clean sheet on Friday as Lille beat Nantes 1-0 on match day 11 but he is not resting on his laurels even as Les Douges now sit in 2nd place in the league standings.

“It’s about work, work and even more hard work. I believe in hard work,” he told the club’s official website, www.losc.fr.

Enyeama is certainly enjoying the best spell of his professional career and he took the time to explain the steps he has taken to get to the top.

“(I have been) watching videos and looking at (my) mistakes. I keep striving day and night to correct them.

“When I make a mistake, I am hard on myself….more than I could get on someone else if he made the same mistake.

“That’s the way I am. I have set very high standards for myself. I believe I can be the best goal keeper in the world,” he said.

Enyeama has been capped 86 times for Nigeria since making his debut for the Super Eagles in 2002.

Ede braces up for Jordan friendly

Enyimba striker, Ifeanyi Ede, has said he is looking forward to be part of Nigeria's squad in Monday's international friendly against Jordan in Amman.

Ede said the Nigerian squad will treat the friendly with Jordan seriously and "like a World Cup qualifier" too.

The Enyimba man is also wary that the Jordanians will not be a easy ride for the Super Eagles.

He also believes that facing Jordan is a good test for the Nigerian team, preparing for next year's African Nations Championship (Chan) in South Africa.

"There are no more easy games these days and that's why we are taking this game seriously. Though it is a friendly we'll take it like a World Cup qualifier. Jordan might not be one of the big names in world football but playing against them is good for us and for our exposure too.

"Right now we are focused on preparing well and also hope to do very well at the Nations Cup in January in South Africa. We cannot afford to let ourselves down or let down our country and coach (Stephen Keshi) who has been a great leader of this team," said Ede to supersport.com.

The former Enugu Rangers forward is also keen to replicate his form at club level for Enyimba at international level.

Ede scored 11 goals in all competitions for Enyimba in the 2012/13 season.

Adedeji backs Chan Eagles

Yinka Adedeji is convinced the Super Eagles have the potential to do well in Monday's friendly against Jordan.

Nigeria travelled to Amman without the injured Adedeji after the Sharks defender failed to recover sufficiently from a hamstring injury, but he believes the home-based team have a bright chance of doing well.

He told supersport.com that the players know this a big chance for them to shine ahead of the final preparations for the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

"I reported to camp with a hamstring injury, but I was with the team throughout and can confirm they were in high spirits before leaving the country," he told supersport.com.

"The players and coaches were dedicated in training, and they were enthusiastic about the prospects of playing a side preparing for a World Cup qualifying play-off game.

"The camp was very lively and I am confident the players would give a good account of themselves. I don’t know much about Jordan, but I think we have prepared well and have a 50-50 chance of winning.

"It may be a friendly, but the players know national pride is at stake and that a good performance would also strengthen their place in the team ahead of the final preparations for the CHAN."

Adedeji still looks forward to another call up when they regroup in December. He was also thrilled his Sharks teammate Christian Pyagbara made the trip.

"I got this injury within the opening 20 minutes of last match of the season against Enyimba," he said.

"I went to camp to report the injury, and the coaches asked me to stay with the team while they monitored my treatment.

"That shows there is love in the team and that they care for everybody. I am hopeful of another call-up when my injury heals.

"I came to camp with Christian Pyagbara and I'm so happy he made the final team.

"The boys are ready for the challenge and they would do the nation proud."

Nigeria won the only previous meeting between the two sides 2-0 in April 2004 during the LG Cup in Lagos.

A goal in each half from Emeka Akueme and Chukwudi Nworgu gave Christian Chukwu's home-based Eagles victory over Jordan's main team coached by the legendary Egyptian, Mahmoud El-Gohary.

Jordan placed third behind Japan and Australia in Asia's World Cup qualifying Group B, before edging past Uzbekistan in a two-legged play-off. They will meet Uruguay in the Intercontinental Play-offs next month.

Nigeria take on Jordan in tune-up game

Nigeria's Super Eagles will face their Jordanian counterparts in an international friendly in Amman on Monday night.

It is the first time both countries will go head-to-head in an international match.

The African champions made the trip to Amman with players drawn from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Chigozie Agbim, Azubuike Egwuekwe, Sunday Mba, Rabiu Ali, Gambo Mohammed, Solomon Kwambe, Ezekiel Mba and Oghenekaro Etebo are among players in the squad to face Jordan.

Nigerian head coach, Stephen Keshi, explained that his team will draw some exposure from the warm-up game as they prepare for the African Nations Championship (Chan) in South Africa in January.

"The game is a good test for the boys as we keep building towards the championship in South Africa for next year. Jordan might not be a powerhouse in world football, we won't take them lightly. We want to get a result to help the confidence level of our team ahead of the championship next year," Keshi told supersport.com.

The Nigerians go into Monday's friendly with a run of four consecutive wins from their last four international matches against South Africa, Malawi, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.

The last time the African champions lost an international game was on June 23 when world champions, Spain defeated them three-nil at the Confederations Cup in Brazil.

But the Jordanians have not won in their last five games - playing draws in all five.

Libya were the last team Jordan defeated in a friendly game 2-1 in Amman in August.

The Jordanians are using the game against Nigeria as tune-up for the 2014 Fifa World Cup playoffs against Uruguay in November.

Jordan head coach, Husam Hasan, called up 25 players for their pre-World Cup playoffs.

Hasan named five new players in Jordan's roster and they are Hatem Aqel, Shareef Adnan, Mohammad Shatnawi, Tariq Khattab and Thaer Bawab.

The Jordan-Nigeria match will kick off from 6pm Nigerian time at the Amman International Stadium this Monday.

German president Nierbsach re-elected

German football association (DFB) president Wolfgang Niersbach was re-elected until 2016 on Friday a day after announcing his country's plans to bid for Euro 2024.

Niersbach, who took over from Theo Zwanziger, now a Fifa Executive Committee member, in 2012 received the full backing of all 249 delegates at a meeting of all federal representatives in Nuremberg.

"I am delighted with the clear result and the trust shown to me," he told reporters. "It is great to have the full backing of all national and regional federations and for me it is a nod to continue down the road we started."

His term will run until the next such meeting set for 2016.

Under Niersbach, Germany has bid to host matches for the 2020 Euro championships to be held across the continent and also announced its candidacy to host the entire tournament four years later.

Germany hosted the 1988 European championship as well as the 2006 World Cup and the 2011 women's World Cup.

With more than 6.8 million members and 25 000 clubs the DFB is the world's largest single sports organisation.

Stuttgart up to sixth after draw

VfB Stuttgart continued their unbeaten run under new coach Thomas Schneider on Friday, climbing to sixth with a 1-1 home draw against Nuremberg who are still looking for their first Bundesliga win of the season.

Bosnia international Vedad Ibisevic converted a third-minute penalty before Nuremberg levelled three minutes later through Josip Drmic following a fine through ball from Timothy Chandler.

Stuttgart, who have gone seven games without defeat since Schneider took over from Bruno Labbadia, were the better side.

They hit the post through Ibrahima Traore while Austrian Martin Harnik also missed two golden chances for the hosts in the first half.

Nuremberg, with Dutch coach Gertjan Verbeek in charge for the first time, came agonisingly close when Daniel Ginczek fired wide from close range.

Stuttgart have 13 points from 10 games, 10 behind leaders Bayern Munich, while third from bottom Nuremberg are on seven points.

Bayern entertain promoted Hertha Berlin on Saturday while second-placed Borussia Dortmund, a point behind, travel to bitter rivals Schalke 04 for the 83rd Ruhr Valley derby.

Dortmund win derby as Bayern stay top

Borussia Dortmund proved too strong for Schalke in Saturday's Ruhr derby in the Bundesliga as Bayern Munich edged out Hertha Berlin to stay top of the table.

Beaten twice by their bitter rivals last season, Jurgen Klopp's side gained revenge with a 3-1 win at the Veltins Arena, while Bayern came from behind to beat Hertha 3-2 and Bayer Leverkusen also recovered from the loss of the opening goal to win 2-1 against Augsburg.

Bayern remain top of the table, a point clear of Dortmund and Sami Hyypia's Leverkusen. And a clear gap has now opened up below, with Hertha in fourth a further 10 points adrift.

Dortmund got off to a dream start in Gelsenkirchen, taking the lead on 14 minutes when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stabbed the ball home at the end of a sweeping move.

Schalke were looking to make it three consecutive wins against Borussia for the first time since the 1960s and they were handed a route back into the game on the half-hour mark when Neven Subotic brought down Christian Fuchs inside the area and referee Knut Kircher pointed to the spot.

However, Kevin-Prince Boateng - who once had a spell with Dortmund earlier in his career - saw his penalty saved by Roman Weidenfeller, and Nuri Sahin went on to double the visitors' lead shortly after halftime.

Schalke pulled a goal back when 18-year-old Max Meyer found the net within moments of coming on. It was his third goal in as many Bundesliga games, but Schalke could not find an equaliser and another substitute, Jakub Blaszczykowski, made it 3-1 in the 74th minute at the end of a brilliant counterattack led by Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

"We got off to a dream start in this really intense match," said a delighted Dormtund coach Jurgen Klopp.

"A brilliant second goal and wonderful counter-attack for the third adds up to us deserving this victory."

Bayern stay top after extending their year-long unbeaten run to 35 matches against Hertha, although they were made to work for it.

Hertha took a surprise early lead at the Allianz Arena through Colombian forward Adrian Ramos and Bayern coach Pep Guardiola also lost Toni Kroos and Arjen Robben inside half an hour.

However, that turned out to be a blessing in disguise as their two replacements turned the game around in the reigning champions' favour.

Mario Mandzukic came on for Robben in the 26th minute and equalised three minutes later. The Croatia forward then gave Bayern the lead early in the second half before fellow-substitute Mario Goetze made it 3-1.

Anis Ben-Hatira pulled it back to 3-2 but Bayern held on and now know that a draw or a win away to Hoffenheim next weekend will see them equal Hamburg's record 36-game unbeaten run of three decades ago

Bayern coach Pep Guardiola admitted that his players were feeling the effects of plaiyng so many games in a short space of time.

"Berlin are the best team we have played," said the Spaniard.

"The desire was there but the legs couldn't put into action what they wanted to do.

"The players need some rest."

A week after Stefan Kiessling's now infamous "phantom" goal handed Leverkusen victory at Hoffenheim, the Werkself came from behind to beat Augsburg with Simon Rolfes and former Bayern prodigy Emre Can getting their goals.

Elsewhere, high-scoring Hoffenheim romped to a 4-1 victory at nine-man Hannover. Roberto Firmino scored twice in the second half for the visitors, while Hannover never recovered from the early dismissal of Mame Diouf and also lost Brazilian defender Marcelo to a straight red card in the second half.

Bottom side Eintracht Braunschweig lost 2-0 at Mainz - Japan star Shinji Okazaki scoring twice - after winless Nuremberg came from behind to draw 1-1 at Stuttgart on Friday in new Dutch coach Gertjan Verbeek's first game at the helm.

Wolfsburg host Werder Bremen later on Saturday before Freiburg host Hamburg and Eintracht Frankfurt go to Borussia Moenchengladbach on Sunday.
