Pacesetters at this year's edition of the NPFL Super 4, Akwa United and Enyimba, are looking to claim their third victories apiece when they face Nasarawa United and Warri Wolves respectively on Wednesday.
Both clubs have won two games from four rounds of matches and are tied on seven points but Enyimba lead the four-team tournament based on a superior goal difference.
Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) record champions, Enyimba, face Nasarawa United at the Nest of Champions in Uyo in the first game of Match Day 4 of the Super 4 from 5pm local time (6pm CAT) while Akwa United and Wolves go head-to-head two hours later at same venue. Both games are live on SuperSport 9.
Akwa United head coach, Maurice Cooreman, told supersport.com that he wants his team to claim the full points against Wolves. The Seasiders won 1-0 in the reverse game in the first round in Kaduna when Kelvin Itoya scored the winner.
"It will be good for the team's confidence to win, and also score goals. We haven't really scored that much in this tournament and that is one area we need to show we have enough attitude to turn up," Cooreman said.
Theophilus Afelokhai, who joined Enyimba from Kano Pillars in the off-season, is hopeful that his new team have enough quality to dispatch Nasarawa United.
"We didn't start well in the Super 4," he told supersport.com. "Now we are showing what we can do. This team is talented and I am confident we will show that against Nasarawa United by winning."
Nasarawa United did finish the Kaduna leg of the pre-season tournament on a high and unbeaten but have come to grief in the second round in Uyo and will need to put up an improved performance against Enyimba.
However, it is Warri Wolves who have been woeful despite enjoying an opening day win over Akwa United.
Wolves have failed to score a goal in more than five hours of football at the Super 4, and that has left Sam Okpodu concerned despite drawing positives from their performance so far.
"It is a concern of course, and we are working on that," he said.
