Pieterse calls for Chiefs focus

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse has urged his Amakhosi teammates to focus as they prepare to battle Golden Arrows in an Absa Premiership clash on Wednesday at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium, (kick-off is at 7.30pm), live on SS4.
“We are a big Club and nothing but a win is expected whenever we take the field. It doesn't matter who the opponent is, our focus is always on our game plan. We respect Arrows. They have proven to be difficult at times but we are ready,” said Pieterse in an interview published on the club’s official website.
“The mood in the camp is high and as a team we remain united, win or lose,” Pieterse added, describing the positive atmosphere in the squad. “We have rectified our mistakes which resulted in us being unable to defend a lead in the past two games.
“The Pirates encounter was a gruelling affair. We are happy though that the supporters got what they bargained for, as the game was entertaining to watch.”
Amakhosi go into the Arrows encounter occupying fourth position, 10 points shy of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
“We are the defending champions and there is still a long way to go before the league title will be decided. However, for sure, we are well aware that we have to start collecting the maximum points,” Pieterse said.
No major injuries were reported from the Derby match, despite Itumeleng Khune’s scare (pain in his calf). The injury was reported as minor and the goalkeeper will be under observation.
Meanwhile, George Lebese made a welcome return at the derby, while Bernard Parker is back to full training.
In head-to-head stats, Chiefs and Arrows have met in 29 league matches since 2000/01. The Amakhosi have 16 wins compared to six for Abafana Bes’thende, while seven matches have been drawn.
Tickets for the match are sold for R60 at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide.
Chiefs’ next game will be a return to the FNB Stadium to host another KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit, Maritzburg United, on Saturday, 6 February. Kick-Off for this fixture is set at 6pm.
