Big Match Feature: Guinea vs DRC

Debutants Guinea will be looking to make history when they take on tournament favourites DR Congo in the first Chan 2016 semifinal on Wednesday at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
The Sylis, who have defied the odds to make it to the last four, eliminated continental giants Nigeria from the tournament before overcoming Zambia in the quarterfinals to make a surprise appearance in the semifinals.
DR Congo coach Florent Ibenge said: “We respect Guinea. The match will be tough. Guinea is a good team with a lot of good players as we saw this from the group stages and now they have made it to the semifinals. It won’t be easy and it will be tough to reach the final. Guinea are like the Brazil of Africa. They play with the ball on their feet.”
The DRC have had cause to cheer. At Chan their attack has been on point.
Ibenge, who will be without talisman Heritier Luvumbu who was ruled out of the rest of the tournament following a knee injury in the quarterfinal against Rwanda, believes his side will cope in his absence.
“It is not easy to play without Luvumbu who is one of the best players in the tournament but we have another player who can do a good job in his place,” revealed the confident Ibenge.
Guinea coach Mohamed Kanfory Bangoura said he has improved the mentality of his players and that has played a key role in helping them to make it to the semifinals.
“After the first two games, we had to improve the players’ mentality and correct every mistake we made then. Playing against DR Congo is not easy because they are a very strong team and are favourites. We respect them but today, we will have tactics to stop them,” explained Bangoura.
The Syli ball movement has been spectacular. So too have Messers Alsény Camara and Ibrahima Sankhon who have both scored big time goals
“We will have a defensive block and we shall improve and also rely on individual brilliance and open up when we have the ball. We are ready for the match.”
The match will be LIVE on SuperSport at 3.45pm CAT and game time conditions are expected to be ideal.
