‘Super 4 not indication of success’

Warri Wolves head coach Sam Okpodu believes the NPFL Super 4 will not be the measurement of failure or success on the continent.
The Seasiders will campaign in the Caf Champions League but have been so far unconvincing in the annual pre-season tournament in Kaduna and Uyo respectively.
Wolves fell 0-1 to champions Enyimba at the resumed second leg of the NPFL Super 4 in Uyo on Monday and will confront home side Akwa United in Wednesday’s match-day 2 clash.
Okpodu said his side will come out strongly to claim a victory against Akwa United.
“We have to do better against Akwa United on Wednesday than we did in the first match against Enyimba.
“When you do not win your first match you must work extremely hard to win the second match.
“ Even though the tournament is pre-season it will boost our confidence if we win.
“We will certainly win the clash tomorrow (Wednesday) against Akwa United right there at their fortress.
“However, the NPFL Super 4 is not an indication of how far a team will go on the continent.
“What is important is for the players to understand we have a huge task on our hands and how to fit in into the programme.
“I will like to see the players adapt and condition themselves to take their chances at goal.
“So the NPFL Super 4 is not a measure of success or failure on the continent but a platform for coaches to test his tools and be sure he is on the right path,” said the former Nigerian ace and Super Falcons coach to supersport.com.
The Warri-based side finished bottom behind winners Nasarawa United, Enyimba and Akwa United at the conclusion of hostilities in Kaduna.
Wolves already have a home date against the Sao Tome & Principe side Sporting Praia Cruz in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League in second weekend of February.
