Nkana winger Shadreck Musonda says his previous experience as a goalkeeper came in handy when he replaced number one Scott Ngokane who was red -carded in last Saturday’s away match against Green Eagles.
Musonda switched roles when Ngokane was sent-off in the 68th minute after Nkana had already exhausted their substitutes.
The midfielder kept a clean sheet in the final twenty minutes of the match that ended scoreless.
“I was a goalkeeper before and I grew up in that sphere,” Musonda said.
Musonda played as a goalkeeper in-between the ages of 15 up to 19 years at lower league side Mundane before swapping positions to play on the left side of midfield.
He added that he had no plans of making a permanent return to manning the post.
“I can’t say anything about that but the good thing is we drew away and it is good for the team and that is a plus,” Musonda said.
Musonda has been at Nkana since the 2014 season when he joined the record 12-time Zambian champions on loan from Kalulushi Modern Stars before making his stay permanent this year.
Meanwhile, Musonda has stepped aside to leave Rabson Muchelenganga and Charles Mweemba to battle for the number one shirt in this Sunday’s Kitwe derby home fixture against archrivals Power Dynamos.
