Iheanacho scores in Youth Cup final

Nigeria’s under-20 star, Kelechi Iheanacho, was in fine fettle on Monday for Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup final against Chelsea.
City had lost the first leg 1-3 and had to win by three clear goals at Stamford Bridge on Monday night to claim the trophy.
Iheanacho gave the Citizens the ideal start with a super goal inside five minutes but Chelsea’s under-18s rallied back with two goals to win 2-1 on the day and 5-2 on aggregate.
The Flying Eagles midfielder displayed terrific improvisation to adjust in between two opposition defenders and shoot past the Chelsea goalkeeper, Bradley Collins following a cross from teammate, Aaron Nemane.
Iheanacho almost completed his brace in the 22nd minute but saw his powerful header well saved this time by Collins.
Two minutes later, the irresistible Iheanacho was almost on the money with a rasping drive from the edge of the box which Collins did well to stop.
Seven minutes before the interval, the Nigerian turned provider with an incisive pass but Bersant Celina side-footed wide.
His endeavour on the night however ended in despair as Chelsea completed a comprehensive aggregate success to seal a second successive FA Youth Cup triumph.
Iheanacho is a favourite to make Nigeria’s final Under-20 squad for the Fifa World Cup which kicks off in New Zealand on May 30.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will face North Korea, Brazil and Hungary in Group E of the competition.
Iheanacho missed out on the 2015 Africa Under-20 Championship in Senegal (which Nigeria eventually won) due to injury but he was quick to voice his agreement over the decision of head coach, Manu Garba to leave him out of the squad.
“Although the coach has decided not to select me for the African Championships, I understand he needs to pick players who are fully fit.
“I am working hard on my game but I am only just available for selection again after returning from an injury,” he wrote on Twitter in March via @67Kelechi.
His recovery and return to form would no doubt please Garba and Nigerian fans who will be looking to see the Flying Eagles win the Under-20 title for the very first time.
