AmaTuks put an end to Cup woes

The University of Pretoria booked their place in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 with a 2-1 win over Moroka Swallows at Tuks Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Goals from Thabo Mosadi and Atusaye Nyondo put an end to AmaTuks’ six-game losing streak in cup competitions as they gained some revenge for their 2009 Nedbank Cup final loss.
November/December Absa Premiership player of the month Thabo Mnyamane returned from suspension for the home side, while there was also a second debut for Davies Nkausu who returned to the Tshwane club last month.
Fani Madida, meanwhile, named Obren Cuckovic in his starting XI, with Greg Etafia falling out of the match day squad.
AmaTuks were quickest out the blocks, with Nyondo's attempt skimming the crossbar.
AmaTuks grabbed the lead with seven minutes on the clock. The ball fell favourably to Mosadi in the penalty area, the speedy winger making no mistake, firing the ball through Cuckovic's legs.
The hosts continued to boss the game, with Geofrey Massa causing Giulio Giuricich all sorts of problems down the right flank. The burly Ugandan proved too hot to handle for the Dube Birds wingback.
Swallows’ defence was nowhere to been seen in the opening half-hour, with Sammy Troughton's troops dominating in all areas of the pitch.
The hosts paid the price for missed opportunities in the 35th minute. Isaacs out jumped Partson Jaure before heading Lucky Baloyi's perfectly weighted cross past a helpless Washington Arubi in the AmaTuks goal.
This spurred on the visitors, who finished the first stanza the stronger of the two sides.
Swallows’ domination continued into the second-half, with the AmaTuks outfit a shadow of the side that started the game in electric fashion.
Massa, though, almost restored AmaTuks’ lead in the 69th minute, his deflected free-kick flying narrowly wide of Cuckovic's right-hand post.
Nyondo managed to go one better than his strike partner five minutes later, beating the offside trap before chipping the onrushing Cuckovic to send the home fans into ecstasy.
Swallows pushed forward in an attempt to take the game into extra-time, but AmaTuks held on to progress.
