Kaizer Chiefs will face Black Leopards for the second year running in the Nedbank Cup, while Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have been handed difficult away days following the draw for the Last 16 on Thursday.
Chiefs defeated Leopards 1-0 after extra-time in the first round last year, with Knowledge Musona scoring the only goal, but now face a Leopards side that is bang in form under new coach Zeca Marques and scoring goals for fun.
Pirates must travel away to Telkom Knockout champions SuperSport United, who beat them 2-0 on their way to lifting that trophy late last year.
It will be the first time the sides have met in the Nedbank Cup since a 2-0 win for Pirates in the 2009 tournament, and SuperSport may well fancy their chances after a fine start to the year that includes victory over Chiefs in the league.
Pitso Mosimane would have got a sinking feeling as his Mamelodi Sundowns side were drawn away to Platinum Stars – very much a bogey team for The Brazilians.
Stars have already beaten Sundowns twice this season in the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout, and knocked them out of the Nedbank Cup in 2013.
Sundowns have a single win over Stars in their last 11 matches in all competitions.
Third-tier Natal United, who defeated top-flight Chippa United in the Last 32 of this year’s competition, have been rewarded with an away trip to provincial rivals Lamontville Golden Arrows.
There are also all-Premiership ties as Ajax Cape Town host Bloemfontein Celtic and last year’s beaten finalists BidVest Wits entertain University of Pretoria.
Vasco da Gama face-off against fellow National First Division side Maluti FET College, while the 2008 finalists Mpumalanga Black Aces entertain second-tier Jomo Cosmos.
The Last 16 ties will be played between March 18-22 with the exact dates, venues and kick-off times to be announced by the PSL’s Cup Committee shortly.
