Lippi leaves Guangzhou Evergrande

The coaching legend, who led the Chinese outfit to four successive domestic titles, had been serving as the club's sporting director until Thursday's departure
Guangzhou Evergrande have confirmed that Marcello Lippi has parted company with the club.
The former Juventus and Italy boss took charge of the Chinese Super League outfit in May 2012, penning a two-and-a-half-year contract reportedly worth €30 million.
Lippi led Guangzhou to three successive domestic titles and one Chinese FA Cup but his greatest achievement was lifting the AFC Champions League in 2013, thus becoming the first coach to win both the Asian title and the European equivalent.
The Italian committed himself to Guangzhou until 2017 in February of last year but announced his retirement from coaching after November's Chinese Super League triumph and was promptly installed as Guangzhou's sporting director.
However, just four months on, Lippi has decided to stand down.
Lippi's departure is a blow for Guangzhou, given that on Wednesday it emerged that his successor Fabio Cannavaro was handed a suspended 10-month prison sentence after breaching orders to stay out of his own property during a police investigation.
