Stars snap up Senegal keeper

Platinum Stars have officially confirmed the signing of Senegal international goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul.
The 32-year-old arrives at the club as a replacement for Siyabonga Mpontshane, who left for Orlando Pirates in the January transfer window.
As Coundoul is a free agent having left Ethnikos Achna in Cyprus, he can sign for Stars outside of the transfer window.
“It is a privilege for me to have signed with Platinum Stars and looking around I see professionalism,” Coundoul said. “The team is run with professionalism, the staff members were welcoming and the environment is so friendly. I was shocked to see the facilities, and was so chuffed. This is like Europe. The quality of the facilities is out of this world.”
Allan Freese was desperate to bolster his keeping options after the loss of Mpontshane, and Coundoul will now provide competition for Botswana international Kabelo Dambe and youngster Kagiso Mlambo.
“We are delighted to have signed Coundoul and we are currently working on the work permit for him,” Freese said.
“Once that is sorted, we will be grateful to see him adding value to the current Goalkeepers we have.
“We are hopeful he will be of assistance to the club.”
Coundoul, who was part of the Senegal squad at the recent African Nations Cup finals, has also played in the USA’s Major League Soccer with Colorado Rapids and New York Red Bulls.
