Renard admits to superior Algeria

Herve Renard has admitted that Algeria were the superior side when his Ivorian team defeated the Desert Foxes 3-1 in the Afcon quarters.
The Frenchman, who guided Zambia to winning the trophy in 2012, says his side opted for the smart tactic of being more efficient at goal against Africa’s best ranked nation.
“In terms of football skills and the play, Algeria was better than us," the former USM Alger coach admitted.
“We must be truthful to ourselves. We shouldn’t see ourselves to be too good, find the most effective tactics against a team that plays on the ground and uses set pieces well. But it isn’t our fault if Algeria wasn’t so good at that area.
“It [Algeria] was the team that played best in the tournament but we cannot say sorry for winning 3-1 against them.”
Ivory Coast shot themselves in the lead through two-goal hero Wilfried Bony but were pegged by Hillel Soudani’s equalizer. The new Manchester City signing restored the lead again before Gervinho finished off the business after a sublime build-up play to end the fixture at 3-1.
The Elephants will face DR Congo in the first semifinal game of the 2015 Afcon on Wednesday.
