Super Six poor judge of Wolves

Warri Wolves goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi has said described as inaccurate any assessment of his side on their performance at the just concluded Super Six tournament in Abuja.
The Seasiders finished on the fifth spot on six points in the six-team preseason annual football showpiece.
Akpeyi said with exception of the two under-age national teams who performed creditably well due to their long stay together others performed almost at same pace because of inadequate time to prepare for the tournament.
“The exceptions in performance at the Super Six tournament were that of Under-20 and Under-23 sides which were due to the long period they stay together to prepare for the tournament unlike others who barely resume camp before they hurriedly headed to the tournament.
“We didn’t perform badly, too despite the shortest time we had before heading for the tournament and I think we would’ve been judged inaccurately and unfairly, too strictly on our performance at the tournament.
“I’m certain if the tournament had lasted a bit longer the overall outcome would’ve been different.
“The Premier League sides performed better later in the tournament than at the beginning indicating reclaim of fitness and form.
“The tournament was perfect as it immensely helped us to have a head start in our preparations for the continental and domestic league assignments.
“Now we know our deficiencies as well as lapses and how to go about fixing the leakages before football hostilities commenced.
“Wolves were not a failure at the Super Six and our performance is not an accurate measurement of our whole strength,” said the former Heartland shot stopper to supersport.com.
Akpeyi assured that his side will not disappoint Nigerians at the Caf Confederation Cup competition.
“Warri Wolves are sure to have excellent outing at the continent once the needful is done right and at the right time.
“We’re determined to contest for the podium dance and not to merely add up to the numbers,” said Akpeyi.
Wolves have a February 15 road trip date with the Burkinabe-based side, Racing Club de Bobo Dioulasso in the start of Africa’s second tier club competition, Caf Confederation Cup.
