Ayew confident in team

Striker Jordan Ayew has described the Ghana Afcon squad as ‘amazing’ as he aims they can ‘do something big’ in the finals on Sunday.
The younger of the Ayew brothers has had a mixed experience at the competition but finally broke his goal duck in four games through a penalty in Thursday night’s 3-0 semifinals victory over hosts Equatorial Guinea.
Jo Ayew, mostly quiet within the Ghana camp, in a post-match interview took to showering praises on the squad after a difficult run.
“I think it wasn’t easy for us because after the first match,” the Lorient forward said.
“People thought that we were out but I think this squad is amazing. Now we are in the finals and I hope Ghanaians will be happy with that. The only thing now is to rest and see if we can do something big on Sunday.”
“We just have to congratulate the boys because it’s not everyone who can do what we did tonight. We have to thank the coach, the staff, the FA and everyone for the help that they have given us.”
The Marseille trainee took up the challenge of converting a spot kick awarded the Black Starts after Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Felipe Ovono fell striker Kwesi Appiah in his area. His brother Andre, the usual taker left the ball for his kid brother to give Ghana the lead.
“I knew I would score the penalty so I went for the ball and I scored,” Jordan said.
“For me, I don’t set personal targets but to always help the team get the goals. What happens when you come to the national team is to think about the squad and not yourself,” he responded when asked of his low goals count for the national team.
Ghana will face former physical trainer now head coach, Herve Renard, and his Ivory Coast team in a repeat of the 1992 finals in Bata on Sunday.
