Orjinta’s death shocks Chukwu

Former Nigeria national team coach, Christian Chukwu says he is still in shock following the death of former Super Eagles defender, Romanus Orjinta.
The news broke on January 3 that Orjinta had died in Enugu days after he raised concerns about his health.
Chukwu, who coached Orjinta at the national team, said he was shocked when he was informed about the death of the former Enyimba FC defender.
“I was really shocked when I learnt about his death because I saw him recently.
“That was during an amateur game involving the Enugu Police team which he coached at the Enugu State campus,” Chukwu told supersport.com.
Orjinta was capped 13 times for Nigeria at senior level between 2003 and 2004 and Chukwu, who was Super Eagles coach at the time, went down memory lane and highlighted some special moments they both shared.
“He was my captain with the home-based Super Eagles and knew what loyalty meant.
“Romanus was also very humble, dedicated and unassuming. He will be missed,” Chukwu concluded.
Orjinta played for Enugu Rangers and Julius Berger before joining Enyimba FC and captained them to Caf Champions League success in 2003.
He then moved to Norway where he teamed up with Lillestrøm SK before returning to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for two stints with Heartland and Niger Tornadoes.
