Police FC claimed a vital point after holding Rayon Sports to a barren draw in an entertaining National Football League game at the Muhanga stadium in southern Rwanda on Tuesday.
In the first half, Police talisman Jimmy Mbaraga beat the entire Rayon Sports defense and in a one-on-one situation with goalkeeper Jean Luc Ndayishimiye failed to find the back of the net.
The law enforcers dominated the first 45 minutes but the second period would test their resilience as goalkeeper Emery Mvuyekure who returned from injury put up a spectacular performance in goal, stopping several attempts by Rayon Sports’ captain Fuadi Ndayisenga and striker Peter Otema.
In the second half, the Blues hit the woodwork four times and had a goal disallowed but they continued to pile pressure on Police in a tense encounter that lived up to the billing.
Ndayisenga sought every possible opportunity to help Rayon Sports score but his efforts did not amount to much as his side registered their fifth league draw this season.
“We did our best to win this game but we were unlucky. We had several chances in front of goal but we failed to execute them to help us win the game,” mentioned Ndayisenga.
This deadlock means that Rayon Sports head coach Andy Magloire Mfutila will have to continue his wait for a debut win since taking charge at the Nyanza-based side in November.
The Blues maintained fourth place on the table standings with 20 points, seven behind table leaders and archrivals APR who overcame Isonga FC 2-0.
In the other games, Etincelles held the on-form Mukura in a goalless draw at the Umuganda stadium in Rubavu while Musanze was held to a 1-1 draw by Amagaju. Espoir overcame Marines 1-0 in Rusizi to register their first win since November.
Isonga 0-2 APR
Rayon Sports 0-0 Police
Etincelles 0-0 Mukura
Musanze 1-1 Amagaju
Espoir 1-0 Marines
