There are not many sides in the Nigerian Premier League whose fixtures promise abundance of goals as Sunshine Stars of Akure. A very attacking and creative outfit that at the end of the 2013/2014 Premier League had scored 51 goals, a feat only bettered by League Champions Kano Pillars who scored 6 more. A look at their results last season sees such scores as;

Already you are seeing a pattern- A Sunshine Stars' match is every fan's dream. Who doesn't want to attend games where a lot of goals are scored? That is what we pay money for isn't it? Exciting and attacking football with both defenses AWOL hence a lot of goals.
The sad reality however is that in a game such as football and in a league system, one goal scored or one goal conceded could be the difference between 1 point, 3 points and no point. It is easy to point fingers at the strikers for not scoring enough goals but how about the defenders? Sunshine Stars let in 47 goals in the just concluded campaign. That probably does not mean anything to you right now, just take a look at the table below; It is a table of the teams that conceded the most goals last season.
1. Nembe City conceded 73 goals and finished 20th Place
2. Crown FC conceded 56 goals and finished 18th Place
3. Kaduna United concede 56 goals and finished 19th Place.
4. Bayelsa United conceded 54 goals and finished 16th Place.
5. Sunshine Stars conceded 47goals and finished 11th.
The least conceding team being Heartland who let in 27 goals and finished a place above Sunshine Stars on the log.
From the table we see that the rate with which they let in goals is simply 'relegation form'.
To be sincere, a lot of the attacking minded teams in the world have problems where opponents keep a sturdy and defensive front. hoping to catch them on the break. They go all out to attack thereby leaving gaps behind that opponents can exploit.
