Bereaved Gourcuff misses mum's funeral

Algerian head coach Christian Gourcuff has opted to stay in Equatorial Guinea with his team for the Afcon rather than attend his mother's funeral in France.
The 59-year-old was given the chance by the Algerian FA to join up with his family in France following the death of his mother but he passed it up.
The Frenchman has now decided to stay on for the rest of Algeria's matches at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Gourcuff received the news that his mother passed away on the eve of their Afcon game against Ghana and the Algeria Football Federation president, Mohamed Raouraoua, asked him to leave the camp and join his family but the Frenchman insisted on staying on for the remainder of the Afcon with the North African team.
The former Lorient manager will take charge of the Fennecs for their clash against Ghana's Black Stars in Mongomo on Friday.
Gourcuff assumed the head coach role of Algeria following the departure of Vahid Halilhodzic, who managed the North Africans at the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
