Ghana up against Algeria test

Ghana have their backs against the wall and must be at their best to beat log leaders Algeria in a must-win Group C Africa Cup of Nations clash on Friday. Kick off is at 6pm (SA time, 7pm GMT).
A disappointing 2-1 defeat inflicted on the Black Stars by the Lions of Teranga has complicated matters for the four-time African champions.
Without their key players in Asamoah Gyan and John Boye due to illness, the Black stars were toothless in front of goal and shaky at the back.
But the duo have returned to training and will be available for selection.
“We’ll need a winning mentality [to beat Algeria],” winger Christian Atsu said. “A lot of concentration on the pitch.
“We lost the game [against Senegal] at the last minute so we have to correct our mistakes and adopt a winning mentality. I think these will be the key things for us to win.”
Ghana coach Avram Grant might tweak his style of play and revert to the traditional 4-4-2.
Christian Gourcuff is sweating on the fitness of key defender Rafik Halliche.
The Qatar-based centre-back was rushed to a hospital in their Equatorial Guinea base of Mongomo on Wednesday night because of the persistent and painful calf problem.
The two sides last met over 14 years ago in an international friendly, playing out a 1-1 draw.
Their three meetings at the Nations Cup produced one win each and a drawn game, dating back to 1980.
Historically however, the last time Ghana defeated Algeria at the Nations Cup, they won the trophy in 1982.
