Heldon, Babanco make history for Cape Verde

Cape Verde players Heldon and Babanco brought up national team records during their 1-1 draw with Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
The Group B encounter in Ebebiyin saw the Carthage Eagles open the scoring through Mohamed Ali Mancer, but Heldon equalised from the penalty spot to earn the Blue Sharks a share of the spoils.
With the goal, Heldon became Cape Verde’s all-time top scorer. It was his 13th for the national team, eclipsing the old record of 12 goals held by Carlos Morais, known by the nickname Calo.
Team captain Babanco also became the first player to reach the 50-cap mark for Cape Verde.
In addition, it was the 100th match overseen by Cape Verde FA president Mario Semedo.
The Blue Sharks’ second Group B Afcon clash is against DR Congo on Thursday.
