Mame Niang knows Mamelodi Sundowns are in for a tough test of their steel more than anything else when they face DR Congo giants TP Mazembe in he African Champions League second round, first leg tie on Saturday in Atteridgeville.
There is no doubt that The Brazilians can play attractive football and score goals, but whether they have the muscle and the mental toughness is what will be answered in this tie.
Sundowns have targeted winning the Champions League this year, but could hardly have been handed a more difficult match-up than this one so early in the competition.
“TP Mazembe will be one of our toughest tests this season and very crucial for us in the Champions League” Niang told his club’s website.
“I believe they will come to the match looking to impose themselves on us but we have to be clinical and tight at the back because it will be much more difficult in the return match.
“The home match is very important in these kind of situations because if we take our chances and be tight at the back, we will go to Lubumbashi with less pressure on our shoulders.”
