APR, Police in battle of forces

Army side APR and Police FC face off in a battle of the forces this afternoon at the Kigali regional stadium in the biggest fixture of the National Football League this weekend.
Police will be looking to register their second win in a row after seeing off Sunrise FC 2-0 on Wednesday however, head coach Andre Cassa Mbungo is wary of the challenge that lies ahead.
Their first round encounter was a goalless draw and the last time the law enforcers overcame the army side was February 2012 in an exciting 3-2 victory.
A repeat of the same result would ensure Mbungo’s side walked away with three points but most importantly reduced the gap between the two sides from the current eight to five points as both teams eye a perfect run to the end of the season with eight games to go. APR has a game in hand.
Table leaders APR currently have 39 points from 17 games while Police has managed 31 points from 18 games and lie in third position, one point behind AS Kigali which hosts Amagaju tomorrow at the Kicukiro stadium.
APR will miss the services of defensive midfielder Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza who is nursing an ear infection but will welcome back central defender Emery Bayisenge and talisman Jean Claude Iranzi who were rested in the goalless draw against AS Kigali on Wednesday.
Police will also be without fullback Mohamed Mpozembizi through suspension having accumulated two yellow cards.
In the other games of the day, third placed Rayon Sports travel to Rusizi to face Espoir with the aim of winning their seventh victory this season.
The Blues were held to a goalless draw by bottom-placed Isonga on Wednesday and will be looking to return to winning ways ahead of their first round tie against Egyptian giants Zamalek next Friday in the Caf Confederations Cup.
Marines host Mukura at the Tam Tam stadium in Rubavu and will be eyeing victory in a bid to protect their unbeaten home record in the second round.
Victory will send the ninth-placed Marines (22 points) into seventh position, one point away from the top four. Mukura will also be aiming for a much-needed win that will send them further away from the relegation zone.
Godfrey Okoko’s side is currently 11th with 16 points, one ahead of Musanze and Etincelles that are tied on 15 points in 12th and 13th positions.
