Middendorp confident of objectives

German-born coach Ernst Middendorp remains confident Chippa United will achieve their proclaimed objective this season of finishing in the top eight teams in the Premier League.
Chippa haven't won a game in their last nine matches and their winless frustration continued on Wednesday night after Polokwane City snatched a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
This resulted in the promoted Port Elizabeth side remaining in 11th position after earlier in the season featuring as high as third on the log.
Bad luck and defensive lapses were at the root of Chippa's decline, said the experienced Middendorp, who is seeking his first PSL win with the Port Elizabeth-based club.
"Basically there is nothing wrong with the way the team is performing. In fact we are playing good soccer.
"Look what happened on Wednesday. We had the game won before conceding a silly free-kick in the 82nd minute and presenting Polokwane City with the chance to equalise. I cannot believe this trend will continue," said Middendorp.
Chippa, however, will not find matters easier when they come up against talented Orlando Pirates in an away game at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.
After an unexpected rise to prominence, Chippa's decline has been quite surprising.
Kosta Papic, who left Chippa United earlier in the season under controversial circumstances before moving to the Limpopo Province, was happy with the result.
"My players never stopped fighting and battling," said Papic.
One of the unfancied clubs who have come to light in the PSL this season, the belated equaliser against Chippa leaves Polokwane in fifth position with an inviting chance of cementing a place in the MTN Top 8 competition.
