Chiefs to switch focus to cups

Kaizer Chiefs got a much needed boost in confidence by returning to winning ways in the league in midweek, said coach Stuart Baxter who can now turn his attention to cup maters for the next weeks and relieve a little of the pressure of trying to hold off the chasing pack in the race for the championship title.
“We needed that, three goals and a shut out was a great for our confidence,” he said after the away win over Moroka Swallows in midweek kept up their eight point lead at the head of the standings.
“I can’t say a negative word about anybody. We did very well in very difficult circumstances. We weren’t faultless but given the situation the driving rain we remained quiet composed. To pick up momentum again now is important but we all know that what really counts is at the end of the season when the last ball is kicked. That’s where it all counts,” added Baxter after success at the Dobsonville Stadium.
“We gave an answer after an awkward defeat at Maritzburg and it was a really good answer.”
Chiefs are left with six games, including a meeting with Mamelodi Sundowns in April 29 and then Wits in their penultimate game. They also play AmaZulu, University of Pretoria, Polokwane City and end their campaign away at Chippa United on May 10.
