SKE out to break Sharks, Dolphins duopoly

SKE have vowed to break the long-standing dominance of Nigeria Professional Football League clubs, Sharks and Dolphins in the Rivers State Federation Cup.
The two clubs have perennial dominant forces in the competition but SKE believes they can upset the applecart this year.
SKE have been impressive in this season’s competition, beating Eleme United 3-1 in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The real test for the club comes on March 24 when they face Sharks in the semifinals knowing that a win will earn them the right to represent Rivers State in Nigeria’s oldest football competition, the Federation Cup.
President of the club, Kingsley Olisa believes SKE possess the required firepower to put Sharks to the sword.
“We respect Sharks and Dolphins but we do not fear them. Sharks particularly are not playing well this season and we hope to take advantage,” he said.
Meanwhile, the semifinal programme of the competition may be affected by the recent travails of Dolphins FC.
Dolphins spent six days in Tunisia where they were walked over by Club Africain in the Caf Confederation Cup.
The Rivers State Football Association has announced that Dolphins’ two outstanding games in the competition must be played before the semi-final fixtures are decided.
“Dolphins still have to play two games and we know that the League Management Company (LMC) have reschedule one of their league games which they missed because of their involvements on the continent.
“We are very mindful of a clash of dates in both competition and if it happens, then we will have to move the date of the semifinals,” vice chairman of the Rivers State Football Association, Ominiokuma Kile said.
