Ssimbwa measured ahead of derby

SC Villa coach Sam Ssimbwa is cutting a courteous figure as he prepares to take his side to cross-town rivals Express for Friday’s highly anticipated Uganda Premier League (UPL) derby.
Villa come into this fixture on the back of a 1-1 draw with Police while Express are smarting from a 2-1 defeat to SC Victoria University (SCVU).
But the Jogoos still come into the tie the form team as per table standings. They are in second place on 40 points, a massive 12 points ahead of seventh-placed Express. But Ssimbwa does not see that as advantage Villa.
“The table shows we are favourites but that is on paper,” said Ssimbwa ahead of the tie, adding, “It is a lot different on the pitch, especially against Express.
“Of course Wankulukuku is a tough place to go and get three points but we are determined because our target is to close the gap at the top. We can only do that by winning games, starting with this against Express.”
Villa trail leaders Vipers by four points and are ahead of KCC by three.
The first round tie in Mityana ended 3-0 in favour of Villa after a boardroom decision. The said game had ended prematurely with Villa leading 2-1 at the time following crowd violence.
League authorities later deducted three points from Express and awarded Villa as many points and goals.
