Middendorp tells players to keep calm

Chippa United coach Ernst Middendorp has urged his players to shed the fear-factor going into the final six games of the season as the Port Elizabeth club faces the prospect of being drawn into a relegation battle.
The 3-0 loss on Wednesday at Mamelodi Sundowns leaves the Chilli Boyz on 25 points, just three ahead of Moroka Swallows in the relegation play-off position.
They can improve that situation when they host Swallows in a relegation six-pointer in their next PSL fixture on April 15, which gives them plenty of time to reflect on their current position.
“This is the time of the season when we must be strong, especially in the final six games and starting with the match against Swallows in Port Elizabeth,” Middendorp said.
“It’s definitely a frustrating time as a coach, as a team, as players and as supporters. [But] It’s important not to go into the final stages with fear. We must be strong, we must be positive and we must have confidence and belief in ourselves.”
Chippa have not won a game since Middendorp took charge of the side in January, with their last success coming at home to Free State Stars at the end of November, 13 games ago.
