Gicumbi shock struggling Rayon Sports

Gicumbi FC stunned Rayon Sports 2-1 on Thursday evening in Muhanga to move into fourth position on the National Football League (NFL) table standings.
Hamad Hakorimana netted in the 10th minute to give the visiting side an early lead but youngster Frank Lomami equalized through a fine goal at the half time mark.
Jean Pierre Maombi then scored the winner in the 84th minute to hand Emmanuel Ruremesha’s side their first victory in six weeks with the 3-2 triumph against Amagaju in February being their last.
“Before the season, our target was to finish in the top half but now that we are in fourth position, we have to keep winning and who knows what more we can achieve? This win has given us confidence,” Ruremesha told supersport.com.
Gicumbi currently have 30 points from 20 games and were below Rayon Sports, separated by goal difference at the beginning of this week.
But following Fifa’s orders to dock the Blues three points as punishment for failing to pay former Raoul Shungu, Rayon Sports now have 24 points from 19 games. They have registered six wins, nine draws and four losses and lie in eighth position.
Gicumbi have defeated all the top three sides on the table standings including handing APR their first league loss this season, a 1-0 away win before beating AS Kigali 1-0 at home.
Ruremesha’s side revenged a first round loss to Police FC defeating the law enforcers 1-0 in January, another important away win.
Rayon Sports has not won a league game since February 8 when they defeated Musanze 2-0.
