Chippa, Birds in relegation scrap

Chippa United will be hoping to return to their Absa Premiership campaign with a win as they host Moroka Swallows at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday night. Kick-off is at 7:30pm.
The Chilli Boys have not won a single game in their last five matches - they lost to Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town while drawing two against Polokwane City and AmaZulu respectively.
Following the suspension of coach Ernst Middendorp, Mich D’Avray has been appointed as caretaker coach to steer the ship as they hope to save the club from the relegation axe.
The Port Elizabeth side are placed at position 13 with 25 points from 24 matches and looking at their visitors, the Dube Birds have 22 points from 24 outings and are rooted at the 15th spot on the log table.
In their previous matches, the Soweto giants have lost four to Kaizer Chiefs, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Platinum Stars and Bidvest Wits while winning one against Free State Stars.
However, the appointment of Craig Rosslee as the new coach could be a step in the right direction and towards winning ways.
Nevertheless, Chippa's caretaker coach, D’ Avray remains confident that he is able to save the team from relegation.
“I don’t think this is about me, this is a team effort, this is about the technical staff and more importantly, it is about the players,” said D’Avray.
“We want to prepare the team to be ready for Swallows on Wednesday.
“This clash will be like a cup final considering the fact that Swallows are in the same situation like ourselves, so we will have to fight very hard to survive.”
Speaking to the Dube Birds midfielder Sandile Sibande, he says they are looking forward to the match and are eager to get away from the relegation zone.
“We’re looking forward to the match and we’re ready for the clash against Chippa – we’ve been waiting for this chance,” said Sibande.
“We’ve got a new coach and we believe things will get better for the club, his message is to work hard at all times.
“We want to go there and add to their relegation worries, we need the points and we can’t show mercy.
“It’s going to be tough but we must go all out.”
