Zesco United coach George Lwandamina says they are hoping to leave Nkana with an away win in this weekend’s big Copperbelt derby.
The defending champions visit Nkana in a FAZ Super League Week Five match on Sunday at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe, enjoying an eleven-year unbeaten run against Zambia’s record twelve-time league winners.
Zesco and Nkana’s rivalry has taken a heated turn over the last twelve months since the former toppled the latter as champions in 2014.
“That one is a totally different game and you know the rivalry that is there between the two sides,” Lwandamina said.
“I am sure it won’t be easy but I am sure we will prepare well enough to face Sunday’s challenges and hopefully we will come out victorious.”
From fourteen previous league meetings, Zesco has picked up nine wins and five draws against Nkana since the 2014 champions were promoted in 2004.
Zesco picked up back-to-back wins over Nkana last season winning 3-0 at home in Ndola last October and 1-0 away in Kitwe in July.
Meanwhile, Zesco are currently 4th on the log with six points from two matches played and have two games in hand.
Nkana sit in 10th place with 4 points from as many games played.
