KCC’s Uganda Premier League (UPL) title defence comes under scrutiny when they face an equally hungry-for-points Police at Kavumba on Tuesday.
Three other games are also lined up on the day with four-time winners URA hosting Sadolin Paints in Lugazi, six-time champions Express welcoming Rwenshama at Wankulukuku and SCVU making a short trip to Bugonga to face Entebbe.
Coach Angelo Lonyesi’s Police had a bright start to the campaign in which they went unbeaten in a six game run that included a 1-1 draw against their Tuesday opponents – Abdallah Mubiru’s KCC.
But the wheels seem to have fallen off slightly following a mid-season quiver. Police are currently fifth with 34 points, 10 behind KCC, who - in third position - are confident of leapfrogging closing the gap on leaders Vipers - who are five points ahead.
“We never had any doubts that we were still in the title race,” KCC captain Saka Mpiima said after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Rwenshama.
Police also won on the same day, dispatching Kira Young 4 -0. In that game the league’s leading scorer Umar Kasumba netted his 12th goal of the campaign.
“Just like we showed in the first leg, we have the ability to pick maximum points against KCC,” warned Kasumba.
